Join a guided tour in English, in order to discover the history of this tobacco Factory of Morlaix. It's a unique industrial site in France, where the story of the workforce and the machines is brought to life.

The Morlaix tobacco Factory is one of the great witnesses to Brittany’s industrial past. Founded in 1740, according to the plans of the architect Jean-François Blondel, it is distinguished by its monumental architecture. The building was designed to accommodate a large working population while reflecting the prestige of royal power.

For nearly three centuries, the « Manu, » a veritable city within a city, set the rhythm of local life. At its peak in the 19th century , nearly 1,800 workers labored there daily to produce chewing tobacco, snuff, and smoking tobacco.

This guided tour invites you to discover this industrial heritage. Accompanied by a science communicator, you will explore the major milestones in the history of the factory, the evolution of production techniques, and the old machines used on the site. The tour also reveals the daily lives of the workers: the sometimes difficult working conditions, the solidarity, and the social struggles that marked the history of the site until production ceased in 2004.
